Dear Friends who call themselves Christian yet are calling for violence against other human beings, or are lamenting the destruction of property more than the stealing of people’s lives.

Repent.

What in God’s name are you thinking??? In no way can those things go together… You either serve Christ, or you don’t. You have one allegiance and all of it must be devoted to Christ. Look long and hard where your allegiance is placed or if it is split.

Repent.

For those of you calling for police to start shooting and doing violence upon protesters because they “deserve it for breaking the law.” For those of you calling for military intervention: That is anti-Christ. And you cannot embody and call for things that are anti-Christ and follow Jesus.

Repent.

For those of you calling for violence against the police, because “they deserve it”. That is anti-Christ. And you cannot embody things that are anti-Christ and follow Jesus.

As many have pointed out, Jesus flipped over the tables of the money changers and drove them out of the temple. He also called out the temple system and religious leaders for exploiting God’s people and foretold the destruction of the temple as a consequence saying, “You see all these, do you not? Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.” (Matthew 24:2) Jesus was pretty clear concerning how we should prioritize people and property, Jesus was pretty clear concerning what happens to property when we don’t prioritize people, and Jesus was pretty clear concerning how we should act towards and feel about one another.

The narrative that all protesters are bad because of the actions of a few, is the same as the narrative that all police officers are bad because of the actions of a few. Both of those narratives DISTRACT from the heart of the issue: White people in power are killing black people and that is sin. Both of those narratives DISTRACT from the sin of systemic racism that has infected this country for time out of mind and must be dismantled and torn down.

Repent.

Those in power who benefit from the system as it is don’t want you focused on the system, they want you distracted while you scapegoat and fight with one other. Ask yourself who has the most to lose and be wise enough to look at the man behind the curtain who is actually the problem.

Repent.

As Christians we are called to be better, YOU are called to be better. What we are not called to do is wish for, call for, or even hope for violence upon others. (Even reluctantly, even if you feel they have it coming…) that is anti-Christ. Ask yourself if Jesus would condone or justify the potential actions that you are (even reluctantly) condoning and justifying in your heart.

Repent.

Did Christ point his finger and blame anyone when he hung upon the cross? Did Christ say that any violence done upon those who crucified him would be unfortunate but necessary and justified to restore order? Or, did Jesus forgive and call for us to love one another as he loves us?
