The Episcopal Church in the United States is a member of the Anglican Communion - churches all around the world whose belief and practice are rooted in the Church of England from which we all sprung as a result of England's worldwide British Empire. As various countries gained political independence so did the local expression of the Anglican Church in those places. We are all independent and self-governing, but also realize our kinship in our common tradition, and we cooperate on projects and mission work around the world. We are part of a very large family of believers in every corner of the world!

Thanks to St John the Evangelist Church, Roselyn, New Zealand, for this excellent introduction to the Anglican Church, its worship, history and people. This is just one example of the worldwide scope of the Anglican Communion, in that, while some of these comments are unique to New Zealand, most are equally true of Anglican Churches around the world, including here in Northern California!

The Episcopal Church welcomes all who worship Jesus Christ, in 109 dioceses and three regional areas in 17 nations. The Episcopal Church is a member province of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The mission of the church, as stated in the Book of Common Prayer's catechism (p. 855), is "to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ." The 2012 General Convention established the Anglican Communion Five Marks of Mission as a mission priority framework for the 2013-2015 triennium: 1. To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom; 2. To teach, baptize and nurture new believers; 3. To respond to human need by loving service; 4. To seek to transform unjust structures of society; 5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth.

River City Food Bank is strongly supported by the people of St Clements, who regularly bring items on Sunday mornings, which are gathered and delivered to the Bank during the week. Often, specific items are requested by the Bank, and we make sure they get what they need! For example, last March they requested peanut butter - we set a goal of 25 jars, and we gathered over 45 in just 3 weeks!
