Todays sermon is titled “Breaking the Law, Breaking the Law…” and is by Fr. Kenn Katona+ here at Saint Clement’s Episcopal Church!

Some years ago, there was a popular trend in Christian circles. It was the W.W.J.D. bracelet. Anyone remember this??? Did anyone have one??? I did, it was maroon with white letters… The idea was, you would wear this bracelet, and in situations throughout your day, you were supposed to ask yourself what Jesus would do if he was in your situation… It was a pretty decent practice, but like all trends, eventually faded away… I wonder though… I wonder if we were asking the right question… I mean, what would Jesus do is a great question, don’t get me wrong… But I wonder if a better question, would be, “Would I treat Jesus this way???” “Would I treat Jesus this way???” We know that we are called to treat the people who have been pushed to the margins of society with dignity and respect… But, when we turn on our televisions and come face to face with the orphan, the widow, the migrant… When we watch the news and see the refugees, the hurting, the homeless… In a word… The hopeless… Can we ask ourselves the question, “Would I still be responding the same way… Would I do something different… if I saw Jesus was among the destitute people on my TV. screen… Would I act, differently… Would I reach out in love to those who I know are in such desperate need of it… Because, that’s where Jesus is. Among the poor… among the abused… Among those who society pushes out of sight and out of mind… Among the hopeless…
