Our parish here in Rancho Cordova is named after Clement of Rome. Clement was one of the earliest bishops of Rome and was martyred by the Roman Emperor Trajan. The manner in which Clement was killed was that an anchor was tied around his neck and he was thrown into the Black Sea. The means of his execution ended up becoming a symbol of his life and faith. It’s why here at St. Clement’s you will see anchors used as decoration. The early church adopted the symbol of an anchor as a reminder of God’s love for us. We who have been washed in the water of baptism are now anchored the Christ, and like a ship that is anchored at sea the waves of life will come and cause us to wobble, but we would hold fast because of Christ’s hold on us.
The goal of this blog is to remind each of us that we are anchored in Christ. That reminder will be communicated in various ways. Sometimes it will be a short devotional type piece from me. Other times it might be a link to a book, a sermon, or a resource that I think you might find to be helpful. Other times it will be news and updates regarding what we are up to at St. Clement’s.
Whatever form it takes, I pray that these posts would be a reminder to you that you are loved by Christ, that he is your anchor, and that he will hold you fast through the trials of life.
